Robotech RPG Tactics: Miniature Box First Look/Unboxing

Like I mentioned in my Kickstarter rant http://wargamedork.blogspot.com/2014/08/kickshart-my-heart-or-why-kickstarter.html I had gotten into the Robotech RPG Tactics Kickstarter yet not only is it stupidly late (something most Kickstarter projects tend to be, and Palladium stuff is anyhow) but my picks would not only be later, but the damned game would be out at retail before my stuff came in!  So one of the local FLGSes had gotten in a shipment of the main game and a number of the box expansions, running around 36-39 dollars MSRP.  (Around 30ish shipped on ebay right now.)

So what did my 36.50 get me?

The box is kind of pretty enough.

The back shows you what you are getting.  4 models, 2 of each chassis.

There is a helpful (ish) computer rendered instruction sheet, data cards, the bases, a BIG pack of waterslide decals, and squad cards.

The other mech is on the back, and there are squadron cards for larger units, including some that require other boxes.  But it seems as if both factions can use the models included, which is very nice.

This however is the problem.  A pair of mechs per sprue.  Not really poseable as they have a default pose pretty much.  Except the way they are assembled requires you to build both mechs at once, and many of them have three or more sprue gates.  It does look to be normal plastic you can use model cement on thoughI am not 100% sure of this yet.  The detail looks pretty solid but..

Around 30 pieces per roughly two inch tall mini?  These are supposed to be GAMING MINIATURES.  To put together a decent army is going to take forever just to assemble, much less paint and finish.  This was not very well thought out.  At least a third of these parts shouldn't be there especially with the generally static poses.

Expect a follow up whenever I get around to building the models so I can compare and contrast to their Battletech cousins and similarly sized Macross models.

Castle Ravenloft First Look!

As always, click the pictures for larger if you need it!

Let's hope WOTC will replace that page.  I can BS my way through the tile issue with a little random die rolling (when the broken tile/counter comes up, roll a d20.  On a 1-6 this is the tile used.  On a 7-20, its the NEXT tile.  This means you only sort of know when it comes up as there is only a 30% chance of that tile being used when it comes up in the stack.) but let's face it.  For a 65 dollar game I bought at MSRP, it shouldn't have happened at all!

(Or for an even simpler solution to the tile issue:  Put a slip of paper covering the counter/tile stack and take the top one off.  I will know for sure when I read the rules for tonight, but it looks like you draw the top tile/counter and reveal/play it immediately.  This would solve things easy.  But again.  Shouldn't have to.)

Wish me luck at getting it replaced!

Zombie Month! Unboxing of All Things Zombie!

It took an age and a half, but the game I paid for in July 09 (meaning it doesn't count as part of my 2010 purchase limits) finally has arrived after insane amounts of delays.

Let's start with the unboxing.  I will have more time to read and play it next week.  Expect a proper review Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

(As always with my images, click on them for a bigger version.)

I've been a tad busy, especially since with all my new money from not buying games I probably won't get to play any time soon I have started keeping fish:

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Triceratops: Dana, Marie, and Nova.

Like my gaming, I did my research before even starting the aquarium.  But y'all don't care about my fish sorority, so let's get to the overpriced zombie goodness!

This game came in at a perfect time, as most of my upcoming blog projects involve our brain eating corpse friends, so expect April to be ZOMBIE MONTH here at Wargame Dork.

I've got tons of zombie related content to get to, so look forward to it!

Citytech 2nd Edition Unboxing!

Yes.  Here we will show the contents of a 16 year old boxed set after I ruin its collectibility by taking off the shrinkwrap and showing all you fine people what is inside.

Buy a product just to hoard and not make use of?

That's just stupid.

There we go!  Everything you didn't care to know what was in Citytech 2nd edition, plus my thoughts and commentary.  As usual, click on the images for a larger version, and I still don't know why Comic Life exports the comics with those weird grey bubbles around the sides.  It doesn't affect the comic itself, but it still annoys me.

Originally this was gonna be a Toyniverse comic with my toys making commentary and framing the unboxing, but I took the pictures over a month ago, and forgot what they were going to be saying and doing!  I think the unboxing and detail stands well enough on its own though.
